Condensed Version Church History
In the year One Thousand Eight Hundred and Seventy-Eight (1878), God inspired a group of men and women through the Holy Spirit to assemble together and lift up His Holy name through songs and prayers. As they continued to congregate and fellowship, someone voiced the idea of establishing a church. Thus, MACEDONIA BAPTIST CHURCH was founded. The word was taught and preached, more members were added, the Holy Ghost manifested itself and more souls were saved. The first shepherd God placed over the flock was Rev. Rowlins of Atlanta, GA. The first deacons God blessed Macedonia with were a group of strong God-fearing men. They had a determination to serve God and His people, not wavering in their faith. A choir, usher board and Sunday school were organized. Just as the first members kept their hands in the Master’s hand, so are we today holding on to His unchanging hand. By putting God first we’ve reaped His blessings abundantly. In order for God’s plan for Macedonia to be carried out, He had to place different shepherds over the people. Succeeding Rev. Rowlins were Rev. Clark, Rev. George Lowe, Rev. Ponder,
Rev. J. J. Daniel, Rev. W. H. Simpson, and Rev. J. H. Hurley. Some planted, some watered and others cultivated. The fruit is still bearing, and souls are still being saved.
In 1964, Rev. H. H. Dyer was called to Pastor. Under his leadership, a new church was built lending rise to regular worship services on the second and fourth Sundays of each month and several new auxiliaries were organized. He served the Macedonia Missionary Baptist church for more than 30 years. Proceeding Rev. Dyer as leaders of Macedonia were Rev. J. L. Freeman, Rev. J. C. McCurry, and Rev. Stephens.
In 1984 Rev. Willie J. Mosley was called to Pastor. While serving at Macedonia, God gave him a vision. That vision was the annex in the back of the church. It includes classrooms, ladies lounge, restrooms, choir room, Pastor’s study, clerk’s office, and finance room. Also, under Pastor Mosley’s leadership a weekly Bible study, reactivation of Sunday School, prayer meeting, tithing, food drive, youth department, VBS, and an outreach ministry was birthed.
During Pastor Mosley’s tenure we became Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church (MMBC). The ministerial staff consisted of an assistant Pastor (Rev. Nathaniel Lewis), one daughter (Rev. Cynthia Marks), and two sons, (Rev. Jefferson Davis and Rev. Tony Roberts).
In 1995 Rev. Eric Collins was called to Pastor. Following him was Rev. James Hawkins, Sr. God saw that in order for His plans for the church to go to the next level, He placed Rev. Carlton Mathis as Pastor. Pastor Mathis, a great motivator, and visionary, served as the Shepherd of Macedonia for seven years. During his tenure many new ministries were birthed: Children’s Church, Women’s Ministry was revamped, Women’s Conferences, Men’s Ministry, Media Ministry, Young Women Ministry, Directed Youth Under the Influence of God (DUI), and Family to Family Ministry.
In January 2011, God placed Pastor Tyrone D. Lane as Shepherd of our great church. During his tenure as Senior Pastor at MMBC, a great increase in the spiritual life and ministry of the church took place.
A few of his accomplishments as Pastor included: Tuesday Night Empowerment Service, Armor Bearer Ministry, Altar and Security Ministry, Greeter’s Ministry, Jail Ministry, Praying, Accepting, Reaching, Teaching Youth (P.A.R.T.Y.) Ministry, partnership with the Atlanta Food Bank to incorporate a Food Pantry Ministry, Healing and Deliverance Ministry, and Radio Ministry. Pastor Lane initiated and inspired several ministries to share their spiritual gifts, leadership, and Christian services to include intercessory prayer ministry. A gifted teacher, Pastor Lane preached the gospel with power, authority, and a prophetic anointing in a cutting-edge way.
In October of 2015, God called Pastor Shelton J. Brown, Jr. as Leader, and Pastor of MMBC. He, his wife, Charneika, and daughters Symone and Sasha became “FIRST FAMILY”. Under his administration, he unveiled “VISION 2020”. A four-phase plan to improve spiritual growth, financial stewardship, outreach, and ministries. Pastor Brown, having the vision, passion, and tenacity to reach the Generation Z and Alpha, initiated the “JAMESTOWN COMMUNITY INITIATIVE”. He improved the church finance department by establishing “CHURCH TRAC”, revamped the HOSPITALITY MINISTRY, initiated the STEWARDSIP GROWTH PROGRAM, DISCIPLESHIP 101, and the BEREAVEMENT CULINARY CARE MINISTRY. Understanding the importance and impact of Christian Education, the Church initiated it’s first “SUNDAY SCHOOL DAY”. The church ministries are growing and through them an impact is being made on the community. The outreach ministries include Annual Revivals, Jail Ministry, Thanksgiving “HOT MEAL” Initiative and “GIVE BACK COMMUNITY FESTIVAL”. In 2020, he established a SOCIAL MEDIA AND COMMUNICATIONS MINISTRY during the covid-19 crisis. This allowed Pastor Brown the capability to make improvements to MMBC’S online service. He transitioned the congregation to adapt to a new way of reaching God’s people, such as virtual church. This ministry not only reached people in our community through his online services, but God allowed the Gospel to reach others in different states, engaging people that our ministry would not have had the chance to reach before quarantine came into effect.
Pastor Brown preached to an empty room for several months, which opened the eyes of the people displaying that church has never been about the building.
In April 2025, Rev. Charles Prescott, II formally began his service as Senior Pastor of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church. Pastor Prescott comes to us from Shiloh Baptist Church in Carlton, Ga., where he served under the leadership of Pastor Arthur Hubbard. He and his spouse, Lady Adrian Prescott, have 1 son ; Charles Prescott III. We are looking forward with great expectation to the new heights that God will take our church to under the leadership of Pastor Prescott. As we enter this new chapter in our church’s history, we trust that the Lord will continue to guide, strengthen, and bless our ministry for His glory. Today we are not only celebrating MMBC’s past, but we thank GOD for its present and dare to imagine the future. As we celebrate 145 years, we lift our hearts in praise to the Lord Almighty for His manifold blessings. We thank Him for His Love, His Mercy, and His Grace. We thank Him for the Christian soldiers that labored in His vineyard in times gone by that helped to make these 147 years possible. As we stay in the Master’s plan we say,
